Goldfish vary in size and colours. There are actually a lot of variations. Each type usually demands a different rate in terms of pricing. The most expensive types are the ones that are very sensitive and very delicate to handle.
Goldfish can be divided into different groups according to their tails. There are single tailed goldfish, double tailed goldfish and double tailed goldfish with egg shaped body and double tailed goldfish with egg shaped body and without dorsal fins.
Single Tailed Goldfish
This type includes Shubunkins and Comet goldfish. They both have similar shape and colour, yet Shubunkins have a calico colour (violet, red, orange, yellow) with black spots. The Comet goldfish have a tolerance for cold waters that is why they are best for ponds in the garden.
Double Tailed GoldfishThis type includes the Watkins and the Jikins goldfish. Both can sometimes look like a common goldfish, but if you take a closer look, you will notice their own unique features. The Watkins goldfish have a split tail fin and they come in a variety of colours. However the Jikins have a distinct colour combination; white body with red or orange lips, gill plates and fins.
Double tailed types of goldfish with egg shaped body
There are a lot of goldfish that fall under this type. The Oranda goldfish, Ryukin goldfish,Pearlscale goldfish, Telescope goldfish, Black Moors goldfish, Demekin goldfish,Pompom Egg goldfish, Veiltail goldfish are just some of the goldfish that are categorized under this type.
Double tailed goldfish types with egg shaped body and no dorsal fins
Two of the goldfish species under this type can easily be identified because of their very obvious and unique features. The Bubble Eye goldfish and the Celestial goldfish both have large eyes that look like their always looking upwards and they also have large sacks in their eyes that can easily be damaged. The other two goldfish that are under this category are Lionhead goldfish and the Phoenix Eggfish.
It is very important to choose the perfect type of fish, because each goldfish can have different types of approach in terms of feeding them or taking care of them. Talk to the pet store owner and ask them for some advice.
The personality of a goldfish caretaker will always reflect on how well he/she was able to manage to raise a goldfish. Some goldfish types that are mentioned above tend to be so delicate and thus require a lot of attention. But, it is a very rewarding experience if you are able to raise a goldfish for more than 4 years.
You can also opt to breed your own goldfish. But, this type of activity can only be done with instructions or supervision from someone who really knows about the process on how to successfully breed two types of goldfish and produce the result that you want.
